Reports from the Annual General Meeting
CELTIC REPORT AUGUST 2001
This year has seen little activity by the Celtic Group, except indexing, which continues.
I would like to record my thanks to those who helped put up a small display for St. Patrick's Day and also the members who have kept our Celtic (Irish & Scottish) Records in geographical order in the Library. Also a big thanks to Margaret Wroe who donated "The Ireland of the Welcomes". These are most interesting and I urge anyone with an Irish background to read them.
I would like to plan a display (and maybe a luncheon on December 1st) to commemorate St. Andrew's Day, Friday November 30th.
We also need to develop an activity Calendar for the year 2002 and publish it in our end of year magazine.
Any members with Irish or Scottish family interests who would like to voice their interest and opinions please meet for a few minutes after this meeting.
From Joy Newman, Celtic Convenor.
CEMETERY CO-ORDINATOR'S REPORT
During the past twelve months, the cemetery may not have seemed to have been active, but try telling that to one fellow, and a couple of the girls around here. Without trying to put a timetable or pressure on anybody, by the end of this year, all the monuments in the memorial section will have been photographed and put onto CD-Rom disc.
Due to a number of factors, Cemetery tours have not been organized to any great extent, however, Peg did a couple for small groups. With the onset of warmer weather and longer days, we should be able to get a few more up and running. Peg has been busy at the library digging stories up, so to speak, so let's see what comes up.
Some time ago we approached the Maryborough City Council to erect monuments to people of this city, where none existed. We decided that the people selected would have a tale to tell. The first people selected were the O'Connell children, who died in the pneumonic plague of 1905. We are pleased to announce that this memorial has now been erected in PORTION "F", and looks a treat. Hopefully we shall bring news of more to come over the following years. A heartfelt "Thank You" to the Maryborough City Council .
During the past year, I've enjoyed my duties here at the society, and couldn't let the chance go by to thank those who assisted me. To Peg, Ann, Margaret, Joan, Fay and Kay, thanks very much. And to my son whom I also dragged into this caper for a while, thank you also. If I missed anyone, don't be miffed, your name escaped me at the time of writing.
This is the time of year when things tend to change a little, but doesn't everything? Let's hope we can still move forward, and carry on the good work we've all been doing. All the best to the newly elected executive, to the Society, and the members.

Just because I don't get in regularly for smoko, that doesn't mean I've joined my mates.
