Members of the Hibiscus Society of Queensland Inc had a very enjoyable Christmas Party at the Caboolture RSL Club on Saturday, 13th December. We had a smorgasbord of food including roasts, ham, all the veggies and salads imaginable, sweets, fresh fruit, etc. Members from each branch were there to receive their trophies won during the year for the number of points won when exhibiting their blooms at monthly meetings. President Gynith Whatmough and the newest office bearer of the Society, Rob McEwan, Chairman of the Greater Darling Downs and Toowoomba Branch cut the cake. This branch was formed only in June this year. Two of the boys (Brian Baills and Ray Ellwood) were celebrating their birthday, and President Gynith gave them an extra lolly for their present. Santa arrived (Brian Baills from the West Moreton Branch) and proceeded to create havoc, reducing the crowd to howls of laughter at his antics - asking who had been naughty or nice, and giving out presents. Fred Westerman showed off a brand new seedling (Golden Doubloon x Harvest Moon) which flowered on the day for the first time. Vice-President Avryl Hutchinson from Ipswich presented Des and Gynith with a lovely gift basket of Christmas goodies on behalf of all the members. There were raffles, lucky draws, and lucky door prizes. Santa even received a present from the President, who went high tech, with her lap top computer set up to read her speeches from.
