Hervey Bay is a small seaside community on Australia's eastern seaboard with a population of approximately 43,000 residents, and located about three and a half hours drive north of Queensland's capital, Brisbane. The main industry in Hervey Bay is tourism, thanks to the giant Humpback Whales that visit us each year from the Antarctic. The holiday atmosphere is enhanced by the 15 kilometres of north-facing beachline which attracts many holiday-makers annually. Many of them like the place so much, they move here! We are very proud to announce that Hervey Bay's very own community radio station, Fraser Coast Community Radio, is now full-time, and online. The concept of Fraser Coast Community Radio was originated at a meeting in the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre in July 1991, with the first test transmission taking place in August 1992. We were in test transmission mode till December 1997 when we were granted a temporary full-time licence pending the ABA's final decision as to the permanent licence holder. That decision was made on the 9th of the 9th, 1999! We started transmitting under our permanent licence on the 23rd of September, 1999.
